Mabtas 500mg Injection (Rituximab)
Mabtas 500mg injection contains rituximab, an anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody used to treat various conditions in adults. It is prescribed alone or in combination with other medications for:
- Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL) A cancer affecting B-lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell.
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) A common cancer that affects B-cells in the blood.
- Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) An autoimmune disease that attacks joint cells, treated in combination with methotrexate.
- Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis & Microscopic Polyangiitis Inflammatory conditions affecting blood vessels, lungs, and kidneys, in adults and children aged 2 years and older.
- Pemphigus Vulgaris A severe autoimmune condition causing painful blisters on the skin and mucous membranes (mouth, throat, nose, and genitals).
Important Precautions
Do not take Mabtas 500mg injection if you:
- Are allergic to rituximab or any of its ingredients.
- Have a weakened immune system or a severe active infection.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding (use effective contraception during treatment and for 12 months after the last dose).
Before starting treatment, inform your doctor if you have:
- Heart disease, heart failure, or breathing problems.
- A history of hepatitis B, as this medicine may reactivate the infection.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Blood infections and low red blood cell count.
- Dizziness, facial or body swelling.
- Skin reactions (itching, rashes).
- Diarrhea, increased sweating.
- Fluctuations in blood pressure (high or low).
Infusion Reactions
Mabtas may cause severe infusion reactions during or within 24 hours of administration. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
- High blood pressure, chest pain, or headache.
- Breathing difficulties, vomiting, or throat swelling.
